St. Anthony, Newfoundland
On day thirty-one, breakfast was in our cabin since we have an excursion to L'Anse aux Meadows near St. Anthony. Zuiderdam came in
to the harbor there.
Eric and Pegi wanted to walk around
the town. They found Grenfell House,
the home of Dr. Wilfred Grenfell that
was made into a museum. The town itself was reminiscent of any modern North American town with many of the same commercial establishments.
After Sue and I arrived in town earlier, we took the bus from St.
Anthony to L'Anse aux Meadows
and entered the visitor center. We followed a path from the entrance into the excavated eleventh century Viking settlement. The site contains many artifacts taken from the excavation, as well as several timber- framed turf structures built in the same style as those found in Norse Greenland and Iceland from the same period.
The bus took us back to St. Anthony and Zuiderdam. After dinner in the Dining Room we played Mexican Train in the Crow's Nest with Pegi and Eric again, this time without all the drama.
